niggles & peeves

  1. Texas doesn’t want you to vote – or have an abortion. Damned GOP State legislature and damned GOP Governor taking away rights of persons of color and women. I’m steamed! I guess Texans get what they vote for, but damn, super right-wing reactive Republicans sure make it hard on lots of people Not Like Them.
  2. Anti-vaxxers. / anti-maskers are a pack of idiots. Their ignorance and gullibility affect the rest of us, and they don’t know or care. Damn it, get vaccinated and put on a mask!
  3. it was time and past time we got out of Afghanistan. Biden did the right thing. People saying we did it wrong or should have stayed have excrement pudding for brains.

I really feel it for everyone suffering from Hurricane Ida. But… Louisiana had decades to learn from the past, and still the entire city of New Orleans and surrounding cities have no power or safe water? WTF?

All those Republicans whining about how we “deserted” our Afghan “allies” have either a very short memory or some kind of brain disorder. Read my lips, Republicans: The Kurds. Remember them? Our allies who Trump deserted when we got out of Syria. You were OK with that.

Also, this “terrible” deal with the Taliban? It was Trump and Pompeo who made the deal, cutting out the Afghan government, such as it was. As that noted liberal Ann Coulter said today, Biden did what “Trump didn’t have the balls to do” – get out once and for all. It isn’t just the Republicans but the awful press who are selling a bill of goods to the credulous.

Can’t disagree with you on any of your post.

I am sorry these unfortunate issues are bothering you so much. Some of them bother me but I haven’t watched the news in years (so I won’t get upset) and I read the LA Times selectively for the same reason. I know nothing much about Afghanistan, but I think Biden did the best he could.

  4. Todd Mason says:

The Biden Administration has been continuing the slow-rolling of the evacuation and resettlement of the Afghanis who were helping US forces/interests, and has done a clumsy job of airlifting folks out of there, and a poor job with the initial resettling. Trump and the other predecessors, including the Bush/Cheney Admin for getting us into Afghanistan in the first place, did little if anything correctly as well.

My friend Laura, herself a paleoconservative, calls the Texas governor “Greg Abbottoir”…the 2018 popular vote in the gubernatorial election, with all the previous vote-rigging in place, ran thus: 4,656,196 for Abbott, 3,546,615 for Lupe Valdez…Texas didn’t choose him, but those who could and did vote preferred him by a not-huge majority…can’t imagine her ethnicity and gender didn’t work against her with some throwbacks.

Those decades since Katrina have not been overflowing in infrastructure funding…and Louisiana as a whole has been consistently afflicted with conservative Dem and reactionary GOP “leadership”…see also, Harry Shearer on the horrible failures of the Army Corps of Engineers to have planned or rebuilt much of anything correctly in New Orleans and nearby, over decades…

  5. Patti Abbott says:

It is certainly a horrible world right now. Hard to think of anything to be optimistic about.

  6. Patti Abbott says:

Although a few weeks ago, lesser storms left 800,000 people without power in se Michigan and some for almost a week. (mine was four days). So all of our infrastructure is wanting.

  7. Jerry House says:

Preaching to the choir, my friend.

  8. 1412064gk says:

Now you know why I advised Patrick and Katie to live in Blue States and to avoid the Red States. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida face immense problems in the years ahead: flooding, failing power grids, hurricanes, increasing temperatures. Banning abortions and restricting voting rights is not going to solve their problems…only add to them.
