Arrrgh! Too Hot! – UPDATE

Its hotter than predicted as shown in the previous post. It was over 90 at 10:30 this morning. Current forecast is for 111 degrees by 5pm. All time records are being set.

Thank heavens for air conditioning!!

they say it’ll be hotter tomorrow and stay in 90s the rest of the week.

I’m not a fan of hot weather, I’m finding it’s even interfering with my ability to read. We’re concerned about losing plants, so we water and our water bill will be…high, though we try to conserve as best we can.

I know, it’s hot everywhere, but we’re already at Moderate Drought level, and it’s likely to be windy as well as hot. Pray there are no fires!

  1. I’m glad you have AC, too! Stay safe and I hope the heat breaks soon.

Glen was just telling me that Portland was having highs up to 110. I hope your plants make it through. Our predicted high today is only 77 but in the sun it feels very hot. So I cannot imagine what 111 in the sun would feel like.

When I have visited Alabama in the summer the heat has been oppressive, but mostly because of the humidity and that I am not acclimated to it any more. It would feel like the atmosphere was pressing down on you.

It is a good thing you have AC, and can stay in most of the time.

I love it hot but not that hot. 85 is my ideal. 110 is just way too hot. Hope you don’t lose any of your plants.
I know you have been reading W, Shaw. His last few books have no American publisher so libraries don’t have the, I have the newest-The Trawlerman. If you want I can mail it too you.

    • That’s a really nice offer, Steve. We haven’t read GRAVE’S END yet, but sure, send it. Can I cover the postage? How soon do you want it back? email me and I’ll send you the address. Thanks!

Like you, I hate hot weather (I was built for Winter). Last July was the hottest month in Western NY since they started keeping weather statistics. This July might be even hotter. When people question Global Warming (or worse, deny it!) I boil over! Stay as cool as you can…

My brother has been keeping us updated on the Portland heat. I think the final temperature yesterday was 112 or 113! He has a small air conditioner and a fan in his bedroom but no central air. He spent last night at a Motel 6 (not sure about tonight) and will be at work (which he says is cool) today.

    Good luck!

    • Officially yesterday (Sunday) was 112, today they say 114. We were a degree or two below here at the house, but still too hot. Drinking lots of iced tea and cold water. Hope your brother gets relief soon.

  6. Jerry House says:

Yuck! That’s heat stroke weather. I’m far more concerned for you and Barbara than I am for the plants (although I hope they make it through). Temporary shelters must be overworked in your area; hospitals too. Sray safe, Rick. I’m tempted to mail you some ice cubes.
