Arrrgh! Too Hot!

I’m not a fan of hot weather, it’s one of the reasons we moved from Southern California to Portland, Oregon more than a decade ago. But it gets hot here too, in the Summer, and it’s hot here now, and getting hotter.

The 7 Day Forecast:
Wed: 83   Thur: 86   Fri: 95   Sat: 103   Sun: 105   Mon: 102   Tue: 93

We were okay today (Wednesday), but when it gets over 85 I’m unhappy, and this next six days I’m miserable. Thank goodness we have air conditioning, but the power folks are warning of shutoffs on Friday through Monday. Our service includes a system where the HVAC can be turned off 4 hours a day by the power company, and it’s already happened once, last week. We expect it. So we cool down, button up and have cold drinks.

I know, it’s hot everywhere, but we’re already at Moderate Drought level, and it’s likely to be windy as well as hot. Pray there’s no fires.

Arrrgh! Don’t like it this hot.

  1. Sorry to hear you’re having a heat wave, too. They are enervating, aren’t they? I hope it’s not as bad as forecast.

  2. Steve A Oerkfitz says:

I love hot weather. We have had our share but right now the high today was 73 and overcast. The next week has rain predicted every day.

I sympathize, Rick. I hate hot weather. And we suffer even more because we do not have air conditioning. Our turn will come I am sure. But for now the forecasts here are for lower temperatures.

Sometimes we have fairly coolish weather during June, July and even August, but it gets really hot in September and October and even into November. We never know what to expect.

  4. Jeff Meyerson says:

No, I don’t like it either. By coincidence, I got an email from my brother sharing the forecast and moaning about it too. The one time we visited Portland (over 30 years ago), we had 100 degree temperatures too. And at that time, my brother – in whose house we stayed – didn’t even have air conditioning.

It’s been perfect here the last couple of days – mid-70s, low humidity, nice breeze, sunny, just gorgeous. But the heat (upper 80s) and humidity are returning over the weekend.

  5. Patti Abbott says:

It’s been an up and down summer, in terms of temps and rain. I like it in the sixties the most. Hope your air holds up.

I hate hot temperatures, too. It would be a Cold Day in Hell if I had a system where the power company could turn it on or off at will!

    • They can turn it off between 5 and 8 pm on a day. We get a discount of $25 for the program, which is fine if it happened once or twice a season, but not if it happens day after day… we’re re-evaluating, based on what happened in the next week.

  7. 1412064gk says:

It was 57 degrees here last night. We’re supposed to heat up to the low 80s tomorrow. Rain on the weekend. I don’t want the Power Company to meddle with my A/C!!! Ever!

  8. Updates to forecast say temps will be hotter than shown above. We could see teens today through Monday. The hottest I’ve experienced is 118 when I lived in Tucson in 1968.

  9. UPDATE: Saturday 3:30 – 103.7
