Commenting on Some Blogger Blogs

I’m sad to say some blogs using eBlogger / Blogspot are not allowing me to comment. So I will be reading those blogs, but am unable to comment on them.

For reasons unknown to me, some Blogger blogs no longer recognize me, though I have a Google account. Yesterday I spent 2 hours wrestling with this and thought I’d fixed it. This morning the problem is back. So sorry, I’m not going to spend hours a day trying to sort it out.

I have a comment below listing the blogs on which I can and cannot comment. Could this be a settings issue?

I’m in a similar position, having been effectively disenfranchized by Google a few days ago. I have a Google account but can’t sign into it because Google thinks I’m an impostor.

  2. The whole blogging thing is getting to be a pain in the …

I’m assuming you mean it’s a pain in the neck…unless you have a lower opinion, Rick.

Rick-If you want to comment on my blog on Mondays, because I really like hearing from you, send it to me in an email and I will post it with your name attached. Hate to not find out about what Barbara and you are up to.

  5. Rick, your comments are showing up on my blog just fine. By the way, the latest issue of MYSTERY SCENE just arrived with William Kent Krueger–one of your favorite writers–on the cover. Interesting interview with Krueger, too.

    • Yes, George, but yours is a WordPress blog. I have no problems with those. Also yes, we got that issue last week, and I’ve read it. He says little about the Cork O’Conner books, it’s mostly about his latest stand-alone.

  6. Blogger blogs access, so far –

Can comment: Pattinaise, Davy Crockett’s Almanac (Dave Lewis), The Rap Sheet, Mystery File, Sweet Freedom (Todd Mason), Rough Edges (James Reasoner), Gurney Journey (James Gurney),

Can’t comment: Bitter Tea and Mystery, Jungle Red Writers, Jerry House, Pretty Sinister Books (John Norris),

What changed a few days ago that has caused the “can’t” blogs to no longer allow me to comment??? I have no idea.

One thing I see here is that at least three of those blogs that you CAN comment on use the type of commenting where Blogger launches a different screen for comments, rather than allowing the comment to be added on the same page as the post. I don’t know what that is called, but I will look into that and see if I can switch to that format, and if it helps. It may take me a few days to make the change.

Rick, I’m glad my blog is one you can leave comments on. And here I am reciprocating. I hope. Will try to do so more often! Steve

This is pretty interesting. I’ve been having this problem since May, when I found I couldn’t post on Bitter Tea and Mystery. After about four tries, I just figured that I’d been blacklisted or moderated out, although I’m sure I don’t know why that would have happened.

Then about 3 months ago I noticed I couldn’t get a post through on Every Goddamn Day, the excellent Chicago blog by Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg. Once again, I tried a few times and then gave up. (I don’t post often…)

So today I’m reading Bitter Tea and Mystery and see you have figured it out. Please, PLEASE, tell us what you’ve done and then maybe I can fix this problem for myself. I bet if there are two of us with this difficulty there are actually many more.

    • Damn thing is, the next day it was back to not being able to post a comment, and it has stayed that way. I’m not even sure what the heck I did that one time. I’ve tried and tried again with no luck.

      • Howard says:

Well. There it was, for one brief, shining moment, eh? A sort of momentary reverse glitch. Dagnabit anyway! “Blunder frattle beak struckle brat! Smick melly whop walker! Drop dumb fratten housestickle viper!” Strong message to follow.

Maybe someday someone will find this thread and give a solution. Of course, the way things are going, by that time I’ll just be sitting around drooling in my shoe.

Howard, I want to assure you that I would not block you or anyone from commenting on my blog (Bitter Tea and Mystery). I do plan to try changes to the commenting on my blog, but my next five days are my last days before I retire, and I have too, too much work to do there before I leave, and I won’t have the energy to look into that until next weekend at the earliest. I am very glad you commented here.

Problem solved, at least for now. I was just able to post at both of the above blogs.

Richard, you actually pointed me in the right direction. I quote from your post over at Bitter Tea: “I had to completely dump Blogger and go in again.” I wasn’t at all sure what this actually meant but, after some thought, I simply logged out of Google and logged back in again. I used that little Sign Out link at the upper right corner of most Blogger blogs.

At this point I’m not sure whether it would be best to log out after every Blogger post or just to hold my horses until such time as this inability to post happens again.

Anyway it appears that this is resolved, for me, at least for a while. I hope it helps you, Richard, and anyone else who ism plagued with this problem. My thanks to you and all the other bloggers for taking the time to create this content for us.
