  1. Jeff Meyerson says:

For whatever reason, New York does not believe in early voting, so it’s today.

    • Only Oregon, Washington and Colorado have all mail-in voting. I don’t understand it. We save over $20m per election by not having polling places. In Oregon, we’ve had it for 20 years now and there has been no down side. It’s great!

  2. Jeff Meyerson says:

We figured go out relatively early because it was supposed to rain later – ha! – but as soon as we left the house it started pouring. I felt sorry for the two guys electioneering outside the high school because they were getting very wet. There seemed to be a very good turnout to me – about 300 people had voted by 10:45 – especially in an off-year election. And we were lucky that our scanners all worked, which is not the case in several districts of New York City, causing very long lines and delays.

    • See my comment above. No polling places saves a lot of money and there’s none of that foolishness you went through. Honestly, I don’t know why more states don’t do it this way.

      • Jeff Meyerson says:

I remember them saying it costs $3 million just to open the polling places even in primary elections or off-year local elections where nobody much votes.

  3. Jeff Meyerson says:

We just had a visit from the People With the Lists to make sure we were voting. (These are workers for the Democratic Congressional candidate.) They were pleased that we already voted.

The weather is horrible but people are voting anyway. We definitely need either early voting or mail-in voting or both.

  4. Well, the Blue Wave was pretty much a myth. As a commentator on CNBC said this morning, “The Republicans didn’t win. The Democrats didn’t win. Gridlock won.”
