I’ve attended quite a few Left Coast Crime mystery conventions over the years, but never until this year has there been one in my home city. Yes, this year, Left Coast Crime is in Portland, Oregon.
I’ll do some sort of update each day, just as I did last year, from LCC in Monterey, CA.
March 12-15, 2015
For the uninitiated, LCC is a regional mystery convention. Mystery readers and writers mix, socialize. There are panels on various topics of interest to mystery people, there’s a book room, author signings, a reception, an awards banquet – the Left Coast Crime awards are called The Lefties – there will be eating in any of the excellent Portland restaurants, quaffing at micro breweries, and getting outdoors, as it turns out the weather is really excellent this year. It was 70 here yesterday.
We’ll be there all four days, participating in our quiet way, seeing friends, attending panels, rubbing shoulders with other fans and enjoying the hell out of ourselves. I can hardly wait.
Will you be driving from home or staying at the hotel? Either way, have a great time.
I’d rather have your 70 than the mid-80s with humidity we have this last week in Florida, by the way, but we don’t get a vote.
Jeff, it’s just 8 miles from home to hotel. Tomorrow, which is kind of a half day at the con, we’ll drive in, pick up our book bags and stuff, see who’s about, maybe go to a panel or two, drive home. Friday we’ll check in to the hotel and be there Fri. night, Sat. night, then drive home Sunday. It’s looking to be a small affair, not many events, light three track panel schedule, small book room. Compared to last year in Monterey, or to a B’con, it’s small potatoes, but we’ll see. Several authors we’d been looking forward to seeing – including Jeffrey Siger – dropped out.
Oh and the weather, after great sunny warm days for a week, today it’s 50s and drizzling.
Too bad about Siger. That reminds me, I need to check if my library got his latest book in yet.
Wish I could be there. But my Spring Break is April 6-11. Western NY is finally experiencing temperatures above 32 degrees. The massive snow mounds are melting!
George, we’re finding it odd that some schools seem to be on Spring Break in early March. April 6 soundsa lot more normal.
It’s been Spring here for a month, but school will break at the usual time. Off to LCC in a few minutes, also will go over to our tax person mid-afternoon to pick those up (we have to pay, of course). Tomorrow will be the first full day of programming.
Enjoy
